Intelligent Document Processing (IDP)

Definition: Intelligent Document Processing combines document capture, OCR, classification, extraction, validation and workflow automation to process business documents at scale.

Why it matters

Unlike simple scanning, IDP is designed to move information into an operational process where it can be checked, routed, approved or stored.

What to look for in a real system

The term is only useful when it connects to a real workflow. Buyers should ask what data is involved, what happens when the system is uncertain, how permissions are enforced, how failures are handled, and how the result is measured.
