MVP SCOPE STUDIO

Ship the smallest version that proves the right thing.

An MVP is not a cheap version of the full product. It is a deliberately scoped release that validates the highest-risk workflow, product assumption or commercial behavior without dragging every future feature into launch.

SCOPE FILTER
MUST

Critical path

Without this, the core workflow or customer outcome cannot happen.

SHOULD

High value, not blocking

Important for adoption or efficiency but launch can function without it.

COULD

Useful enhancement

Improves polish or convenience after the core behavior is validated.

NOT YET

Future capability

Good idea with poor timing. Keep it visible but outside the release boundary.

MVP QUESTIONS
What is the single workflow that must work end-to-end?

Name one complete journey—from trigger to successful outcome. Every MVP feature should either enable, protect or measure that journey.

What assumption could make the whole product wrong?

Prototype this early: user behavior, data availability, AI quality, integration feasibility, willingness to pay or operational adoption.

What can remain manual temporarily?

A human-operated step can be acceptable in an MVP when automation is not what you are trying to validate.

What must never be manual?

Security, access control, transactional integrity and critical state should not depend on improvised launch-day workarounds.

What does success look like?

Define measurable evidence: cycle time, completion, adoption, conversion, error reduction, customer outcome or qualified demand.

What will we learn after launch?

If the release cannot generate a decision about what to build next, it is probably not scoped around the right uncertainty.

RELEASE ARCHITECTURE
01Core identityUsers, roles and minimum permissions.
02Critical workflowThe end-to-end action the MVP exists to prove.
03Data / integrationOnly the sources required for the critical workflow.
04AI where necessaryUse AI only where it is part of the hypothesis.
05MeasurementEvents, feedback and outcomes that inform the next release.
ANTI-SCOPE TRAPS

“While we are here…”

Small adjacent requests quietly turn a focused release into a platform rewrite.

Future-role explosion

Building permissions for hypothetical teams before the first real users exist.

Premature automation

Automating rare edge cases before the normal workflow is validated.

Analytics everywhere

Instrument the decisions you need, not every possible event.

Perfect visual polish too early

Quality matters, but not at the cost of delaying the workflow you need to test.

AI because it sounds advanced

If deterministic logic is enough, use deterministic logic.

Need help cutting a large idea into the right first release?

Use the Project Planner and explicitly tell us which assumptions are uncertain. We can scope the product around them.

Next step

Tell us what is slowing your business down.

Describe the workflow, website, customer journey or system your team has outgrown. You do not need a technical specification — we will shape the right first phase with you.
