Accuracy is not one number. Extracting a submission deadline from a tender may be reliable while extracting a liability cap from the same document is not, and the workflow should treat the two differently. The valuable behaviour is not perfect extraction but honest extraction: a system that flags what it could not find and what it was unsure about is far more useful than one that always returns a value.

Where it fits in a build

It applies wherever people currently read documents to find the same handful of facts: tender qualification, invoice processing, claims intake, contract review, onboarding checks. The saving comes from the reading, not from the typing.

Common mistakes

• Measuring overall accuracy instead of per-field accuracy, which hides the one field that matters.
• Hiding low confidence, so the worst extractions flow through silently.
• Ignoring the input quality problem. A phone photograph of a stapled document limits the result more than any model choice.
